The Renaissance

The Renaissance came after the Middle Ages. The end of the Middle Ages is usually set to when Constantinople was taken over and became Muslim. People think of the Renaissance as more advanced than the Middle Ages. While Medieval people weren’t in an intellectual vacuum,  the Renaissance had some significant advances. Some people got it in their head to actually challenge the Catholic Church and formed their own Protestant sects! Catholics were actually the ones persecuted at one point! Also, Gutenberg’s printing press made information get around to many people, probably fueling all those new ideas!  The Renaissance is also known for it’s artwork too! They made more realistic sculptures and paintings than in the Middle Ages. Science was big then too! People started to re-think some of the church’s views on topics like outer-space for one thing… Who would’ve guessed that the earth wasn’t the center of the universe and that (gasp) the heavenly bodies have craters!!!
