Ancient Hair Dye!

Modern people weren’t the only ones to dye their hair! Ancient Roman women were known to dye their hair blonde, red, and black. They used natural products like henna, indigo, Cassia obovata, senna, alma and turmeric. Others were black walnut hulls, leeks, katam, and red ochre to dye their hair, but often, the dye would burn the scalp and damage the hair. The Gallic warriors often dyed their hair blonde too to look fierce! Synthetic hair dyes were developed around the 1860’s.
