The Hair Cut of Doom

In 751, a Merovingian King named Childeric III was deposed by the pope at the time. Not much is known about Childeric III, but the father of Charlemagne asked the pope to depose him saying that the king should have a royal lineage as opposed to one who exercised the power, like Childeric III. The pope agreed and had Childeric III deposed. The weird part was that they cut his hair short to do that! Long hair was a symbol of magical power and royal rights to the Merovingians and cutting it stripped him of that power. They cut it into a tonsure like monks had and sent him to a monastery. He probably thought that that was the worst hair cut he ever got!
