The Madrid Skylitzes

The Madrid Skylitzes is a Byzantine manuscript. It was created around the 1100’s and is about the reigns of Byzantine emperors from 811-1057. It was written by  John Skylitzes and was called the Synopsis of Histories. John Skylitzes was a Greek Historian in the late 10th century. It has very interesting drawings, about 574 of them! It’s most well-known drawing was of warriors shooting Greek fire at a ship from their own ship. It also has a fascinating drawing of a Byzantine triumphal procession, based off those did in Ancient Rome.
